Carol Murphy is Portsmouth Daily Times Nurse of the Year Again!

Carol Murphy has been an employee of Dr. George Pettit since 1988. She is married to Ike Murphy, a surgical assistant. They are proud parents of daughters Jessica, Rebecca, & Rachael, and a grandson, Eli-Curtis.

Carol graduated from Shawnee State University and became a licensed practical nurse in 1976. Since that time, she has worked in emergency care, orthopedics, med-surg, obstetrics and gynecology.

In addition to her duties with Dr. Pettit, Carol has worked part-time with Southern Ohio Medical Center as an ultrasound technologist. Carol has attended educational training in physics and ultrasound technology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Jefferson Medical College, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at Sidney Eldeman, in Chicago, Illinois, and at the Gulf Coast Institute, in St. Petersburg Beach, Florida.

Her work in our office involves every aspect of OB/GYN care. Carol's expertise in obstetric ultrasound technology has proven to be a valuable and necessary asset to our practice and to our patients.

Active participation in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and the Scioto County Crop Walk are two of the many community services in which Carol is involved. Her hobbies include needlepoint and reading.

When asked about her tenure with George P. Pettit, M.D., Inc., Carol states, "I have always had a desire to help people in any way I can, whether I am at work or off-duty. Nursing has provided me an avenue to care for others to the fullest. It is important to me and to all of us at Dr. Pettit's office that we give our patients the absolute best of care. It is a mission with me, as in our practice, that the patient always comes first and total health care is the priority. I believe that is why I enjoy working with Dr. Pettit and staff in my nursing profession. It is very rewarding and I am truly blessed every day."
