Laser Hair Removal and Laser Vein Treatment
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSIs laser treatment safe?YES! Because the laser selectively treats the hair follicle, the surrounding normal skin is not affected. Studies and experience have shown that laser treatment is safe even for infants as young as 2 weeks of age! Is laser treatment painful? Each pulse feels like the snap of a rubber band against the skin. In most cases, no anesthesia is necessary. When treating children or areas which are sensitive (around the mouth and eyes), a numbing cream or local anesthetic is used to make the laser treatment more comfortable. Why do I need a consultation? All new patients are required to have an initial consultation which includes a complete skin examination and review of treatment options. During the consultation, you will receive information related to the specifics of laser surgery, including pre- and post-operative skin care. A full skin analysis, including a product guide outlining your prescribed morning and everning skin care routines, will be provided. Can I have surgery on the same day as my consultation?Yes, depending on your diagnosis and the scheduling time available. Is it covered by insurance? The majority of insurance companies deem laser surgery to be cosmetic in nature and not medically necessary. We will, however, provide you with the necessary forms to include with your own claim submission. Should any additional information be needed in order to further process your claim, the insurance company will contact us directly and the necessary forms and letters will be sent out on your behalf. How much does laser surgery cost? The fee for laser surgery is determined by the size of the area to be treated and the number of pulses delivered by the laser. Please keep in mind that a pulse size is smaller than an eraser head on a pencil. It may take only a few pulses or several hundred pulses to treat an area. Laser surgery fees are therefore highly variable, but can start at $150 for a small area. Will I need to take any medication?Extra-strength Tylenol is usually preferred following laser surgery, as well as a lotion containing aloe. Prescription medications will be prescribed on an individual basis depending on the type of surgery. How do lasers work?Lasers work by focusing a beam of light to a target in the skin. Through this process, the hair follicle is destroyed without scarring or damage to the treated or surrounding area. (Please note: some hair follicles may not go away completely despite the best efforts made by the physician). What will I look like after surgery? Results will vary depending on the laser used, but you should expect the skin to be slightly red in color, much like a sunburn. How many treatments will I need? That will depend on the area being treated and skin type. One to several laser sessions may be indicated. During your consultation, you will be given an individualized estimate of treatments expected. How long does the surgery usually take?Depending on the size and location of the area and type of procedure to be performed an approximate estimate would be anywhere from 15 minutes to 1 hour or longer. Will I be able to attend work or school after my surgery? Most patients are able to return to their regular activities the same day as the surgical procedure. However, some procedures require that you remain home for a period of time to be determined only by your physician. Are there any people who would not be candidates for laser therapy?Lasers may not be suitable for dark complexions due to the presence of increased skin pigment. A doctor would need to evaluate an individual's skin type to determine his or her potential response to treatment.
